Differing from conventional M.A. programs that emphasize literary history, IUPUI's Master of Arts in English concentrates on practical applications of English studies, particularly in teaching and editing.
Our M.A. program offers adaptable study plans: Just eight credit hours of core courses are required, with the rest being customizable electives aligned with your objectives. You can select between a thesis track (36 credits) or non-thesis option (40 credits), specializing in literature, writing, or linguistics.
This program equips graduates for diverse careers—from editing and teaching to academic roles, arts administration, writing, and research. Alumni include a New York Times staff writer and a Random House acquisitions editor.
Our graduates hold positions as journal editors, managing editors, communications specialists, and more at prominent publications and firms. Currently, at least nine alumni are advancing their education through Ph.D. or M.F.A. programs.
