The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology PhD program at IU School of Medicine generally spans five years. This comprehensive program consists of two years of academic coursework followed by three years dedicated to full-time original research, concluding with a doctoral dissertation. Graduates emerge equipped for roles in academia, research, teaching, or bioscience-related industries. Participants begin through the Indiana University School of Medicine Biomedical Gateway (IBMG) Program, completing a shared first-year curriculum with fellow PhD candidates. After the initial year, students choose a faculty advisor and specialized courses aligned with their research focus. Detailed application guidelines can be found on the Indiana Biomedical Gateway Program's admissions webpage.
