These professionals conduct organ imaging scans, counting procedures, and certain therapeutic treatments involving radioactive compounds. Skilled nuclear medicine technologists apply radiation safety protocols while preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals for various diagnostic tests. They are proficient in conducting quality assurance checks on both equipment and radioactive substances. Additionally, these technologists support physicians during clinical procedures, administer IV injections, collect blood samples, evaluate study quality, and deliver fundamental patient care. As essential healthcare team members, nuclear medicine technologists collaborate closely with other medical professionals.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
