The Geology Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts programs are Indiana University degrees administered through the Department of Earth Sciences.
These geology programs provide students with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary scientific education. Learners build upon core knowledge in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics to examine Earth's systems and geological processes. Geology involves analyzing Earth materials (including rocks, sediments, soils, and petroleum) while investigating their connections with oceans, the atmosphere, living organisms, and their evolution over time.
You'll discover how earth sciences impact contemporary society and have opportunities to engage in research activities. Research extends beyond labs, frequently incorporating hands-on fieldwork experiences. The department's faculty and staff foster an environment where students at every level can investigate, uncover, and master earth science concepts through both academic study and practical research.
As you complete your degree, you'll demonstrate your accumulated knowledge through a culminating capstone experience. This final project might involve a regional geology expedition, professional internship, or focused seminar course. Bachelor of Arts candidates typically have more elective options than Bachelor of Science students, allowing them to develop expertise in complementary fields that utilize geological principles for diverse career paths.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students scoring TOEFL 60+ or IELTS 5.5+ are eligible for admission but should anticipate taking additional English for Academic Purposes courses along with their academic program.
