The secondary program's disciplines (English, world languages, mathematics, and social studies) each demand a distinct, carefully structured curriculum. These study programs consist of three key components: the common core curriculum, the licensure concentration program, and the teacher education program. Every course within these programs is intentionally chosen to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to satisfy the demanding content and instructional standards necessary for obtaining middle school and high school teaching certification in their chosen field.
Students should aim to complete 30 credit hours annually. When fewer than 30 credits are successfully earned during fall or spring semesters, or if foundational (non-credit) courses are required as prerequisites (such as Math 00100), summer term enrollment becomes necessary to maintain progress toward timely graduation.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students scoring TOEFL 60+ or IELTS 5.5+ are eligible for admission but should anticipate taking additional English for Academic Purposes courses along with their academic program.
