Purdue University's Department of Psychology offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology.
Psychology examines human behavior and mental processes through scientific methods. This discipline aims to describe, explain, predict, and modify both observable actions and internal mental activities (including thoughts, emotions, memories, and beliefs). Our undergraduate program emphasizes four core principles:
1. psychology operates as a scientific discipline
2. behavior results from individual characteristics, environmental factors, and their interplay
3. psychology's development reflects its socio-historical background through various theoretical approaches
4. cultural contexts shape the interpretation and application of psychological concepts.
Our program features dynamic learning experiences, rigorous coursework, and exceptional research and internship possibilities. Starting in your first year, you can collaborate with distinguished faculty on research projects. A supportive peer-advising system fosters leadership development as students assist one another.
Graduates gain expertise in communication, analytical thinking, research methods, ethical considerations, and cultural awareness. Alumni frequently pursue advanced degrees in psychology or enter professional programs like law, medicine, or physical therapy. Others continue their education in fields such as social work.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
