Purdue University's Department of Biology offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology.
Biology, as a natural science, focuses on examining life by observing the structure, function, reproduction, development, origins, evolution, and behavior of living organisms and their interactions with the environment.
Experts in genetics, molecular biology, and physiology have significantly advanced our understanding of cellular and systemic functions. Biologists contribute to human welfare through breakthroughs like antibiotic development, insights into cancer mechanisms, and agricultural innovations. A biology education equips students to assess scientific findings critically and apply this knowledge responsibly for the benefit of all life forms.
Your learning culminates in a capstone project—an original endeavor that integrates your major coursework. This final experience may take the form of research, independent study, practical training, seminars, or fieldwork.
Biology graduates enjoy vast career prospects, particularly in today's expanding biotechnology sector and post-genomic era. Alumni pursue paths in genetic analysis, pharmaceutical research, immunology, agricultural science, and various molecular and cellular biology specializations.
Students must have earned a diploma from an accredited high school before you enroll at IUPUI.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
Students scoring TOEFL 60+ or IELTS 5.5+ are eligible for admission but should anticipate taking additional English for Academic Purposes courses along with their academic program.
