The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care is designed for certified respiratory therapists (CRTs) who have completed an accredited certificate or associate degree program. This program enables CRTs to refine their clinical expertise while cultivating leadership abilities for career progression into roles such as management, education, research, marketing, and sales.
Graduates from accredited associate degree programs may receive advanced standing (33 credits) for previous coursework. Participants must meet all university degree requirements, including 27 credits of upper-level respiratory care courses that expand foundational knowledge. These courses cover leadership/management, instructional techniques, advanced diagnostics, research methodologies, continuum of care, and neonatal/pediatric respiratory care, all taught by IUP's expert faculty.
Academic transcripts are evaluated individually to determine remaining requirements. Courses older than ten years or those not precisely matching IUP's liberal studies criteria may require special review. Most associate degree holders with CRT certification need supplementary coursework in natural sciences, math, English, social sciences, history, arts, and humanities. A minimum of 45 IUP credits, including the 27 respiratory care credits, is required to earn the degree.
