While future doctors study human medicine, veterinary students must master applying medical knowledge across diverse animal species. Your coursework will include Botany, General Zoology, Microbiology, Genetics, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Animal Developmental Biology, and Comparative Animal Physiology. Completing this program grants you an automatic chemistry minor.

IUP's biology faculty are dedicated to providing the ideal educational environment - combining the resources of major research universities with the personalized attention of smaller colleges. They excel in both theoretical instruction and practical application, fostering academic development through classroom learning while emphasizing real-world experiences and hands-on training.

The U.S. has just 28 accredited veterinary schools. While this creates favorable job prospects, veterinary school admissions remain highly competitive. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects exceptional growth in veterinary employment, forecasting a 35% increase from 2006-2016 - significantly outpacing average job market growth.
