Creating a single moment on stage requires countless hours of preparation, including rehearsals, design work, construction, and other backstage efforts.
Your degree program starts with hands-on experience either onstage or backstage during your first semester.
Theater-by-the-Grove and the IUP Dance Theater Company present six annual productions, including a large-scale musical, offering abundant creative possibilities.
More artistic avenues open through studio performances, touring shows, and workshop productions.
Foundation courses cover theater theory, history, and literature while building essential skills in acting, technical production, and costuming. You'll select from three focus areas: Performance, Design/Tech/Management, or Theory and Criticism—or design your own specialization.
Through the Acorn Project, students can access up to 25 production chances to experiment with playwriting, acting, and directing, primarily in Waller Hall's Studio Theater.
Elective courses let you enhance career opportunities by studying radio, television, languages, journalism, business, visual arts, music, dance, or other disciplines.
