The political science pre-law program combines an interdisciplinary minor with various services and extracurricular opportunities, offering students a well-rounded liberal arts foundation. This prepares them not only for law school admission and success but also for careers in diverse legal fields.
Administered through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Pre-Law Program involves seven participating departments. Students select a major from one department while completing 21 credit hours from the remaining six departments.
For instance, a history major would work with their advisor to choose courses from the other six departments (excluding History). Each department provides three pre-law courses, with students required to take at least one from each field. The final three credits can be selected from any of these departments.
This program's key benefit is that students earn a substantial major regardless of law school acceptance. The comprehensive liberal arts minor also serves as valuable preparation for those pursuing careers outside the legal field.
