The honors program is designed to provide exceptional history majors with an enriched academic experience.
Eligible students must maintain a 3.25 overall GPA and a 3.5 GPA in history courses, applying in their junior year. Participants undertake one semester of HIST 487 or an advanced honors course, followed by two semesters dedicated to thesis research and writing.
This program strongly benefits those pursuing graduate studies or professional degrees. Successful completion appears on official transcripts, with graduates receiving special recognition during departmental graduation events.
Each honors thesis is developed under the guidance of a faculty expert in the student's chosen field, evaluated by a committee including the advisor and two additional reviewers (one potentially from outside History). Honors courses fulfill major requirements, with the thesis replacing one 400-level topics course.
