Ancient civilizations from centuries past have bequeathed numerous insights into their ways of life and cultural practices. As an anthropology student specializing in archaeology, you'll discover how to uncover and analyze these historical traces. The archaeology concentration is specifically crafted for those committed to pursuing archaeology professionally, equipping you with essential knowledge and practical skills to launch your career as an archaeologist after earning your bachelor's degree. Graduates leave with a competitive portfolio featuring both fieldwork and lab experience, complemented by specialized coursework in advanced archaeological methodologies.

Our Archaeological Field School offers immersive training in surveying techniques, site excavation, lab procedures, and artifact examination. You'll participate in active IUP digs, including a Native American settlement from the 1400s in Indiana County or the remains of Colonial Hannastown—a frontier community established east of modern-day Pittsburgh that was destroyed during the American Revolution.
