The three-year M.F.A. Costume Technology program emphasizes draping, pattern-making, dressmaking, and tailoring, with pattern development techniques forming its foundation. Students in this program participate as peers in design and production discussions, working alongside their teams from initial concept meetings through to final performances. During their third year, students undertake either a research-focused or production-oriented thesis project. Throughout the program, each Costume Technology student serves as cutter/draper for a minimum of four productions while also gaining hands-on experience as first hands, stitchers, or craft specialists in departmental shows. Graduates emerge fully equipped for careers in both professional theater and academic settings, with the program specifically designed to prepare them for success in professional theater and related fields.
