This combined program pairs an M.A. in History with a Master of Library Science (M.L.S.), preparing students for professional roles in archives, libraries, museum collections, historical organizations, and similar institutions. By pursuing both degrees simultaneously, students complete 56 total credit hours instead of the standard 66 needed for separate degrees. The curriculum consists of 26 history credits and 30 library science credits. Within history requirements, a minimum of 20 credits must come from the History Department, while the remaining 6 elective credits can be fulfilled through additional history courses or relevant library science coursework. Mandatory components include completing H601 along with participation in one seminar and two colloquia. Applicants must gain separate admission to both the History Department for the M.A. and the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering for the M.L.S. Current students in either program may transition to the dual degree option, provided they apply and are accepted to the second program before finishing their initial degree.
