Our department approaches developmental psychology as the exploration of mechanisms and drivers behind behavioral change. We aim to equip emerging researchers with both empirical and theoretical frameworks that move past simply documenting developmental stages to uncovering the underlying processes. These fundamental questions about developmental mechanisms apply universally across disciplines and species. Grasping these processes demands both specialized knowledge in specific domains and a wide-ranging perspective on developmental patterns that typically fall under different psychological and scientific categories. For instance, research on infant motor skills such as smiling and facial expressions, along with studies of avian song development, provides valuable insights into human language acquisition.
