Spanish holds significant importance both nationally and worldwide. As the second most common language in the U.S., its influence continues to grow in major cities. Hispanic communities, comprising nearly 20% of the U.S. population, include speakers of Spanish, English, or both languages. These communities represent a rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds, national origins, and ethnic identities. The Spanish major provides comprehensive studies in language, literature, linguistics, film, and cultural studies focusing on Latin America and Spain (including Catalonia). This program enhances your knowledge of communication patterns, linguistic structures, and regional variations across Spanish-speaking communities, including those in the United States.
