The Bachelor of Arts in Italian cultivates expertise in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Italian while delving into Italy's rich literary and cultural heritage. The program also includes introductory linguistics courses that examine the language's structure and evolution. Core requirements emphasize building strong competencies in the four fundamental language abilities (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) while surveying Italian literature and civilization. Students can pursue specialized study through independent research projects and our diverse 400-level literature courses, covering subjects from Boccaccio's Decameron to depictions of the Mafia in Italian films. Our summer program in Florence, along with semester and academic-year study abroad options in Bologna, provides exceptional immersive experiences for Italian majors.
