Economics examines how goods and services are produced and consumed, using mathematics as one of its fundamental languages. Organizations across business, industry, and government value graduates who possess mathematical analytical skills, technical expertise, and a solid grasp of economic and financial fundamentals. The Interdepartmental Major in Economics and Mathematics combines courses from both the Economics (ECON) and Mathematics (MATH) departments, both housed within Indiana University's College of Arts and Sciences. Students in this program collaborate with distinguished faculty from both disciplines—experts in economic theory/policy and advanced mathematical concepts respectively. These nationally recognized departments provide thorough instruction in contemporary economics and mathematics. This interdisciplinary major opens doors to graduate studies in multiple fields, equipping students with quantitative methods to assess economic trends, interpret complex datasets, and evaluate strategic dynamics in economics, business, and global affairs. Additionally, it provides strong preparation for careers in actuarial science.
