The FCS teacher education program is renowned for developing exceptional educators. Our curriculum fulfills all Illinois teacher certification standards. Students can earn their Illinois teaching credential through either a four-year or accelerated two-year degree path. Program completers are certified to instruct grades 5-12 across all FCS disciplines, with additional specialization options. School districts frequently turn to Illinois State when seeking top-tier FCS educators, as we graduate more FCS teachers than any other program in the state. FCS students benefit from a tight-knit community with robust support structures, including an active student association, peer mentoring, and dedicated faculty. Our extensive alumni network offers ongoing connections, while numerous scholarships and teaching assistant positions provide financial support - with most undergraduate TA roles filled by FCS education majors.
