The English Teacher Education (ETE) program is an English Studies track offered by the Department of English within Illinois State University's College of Arts and Sciences. Prospective educators in this program gain the necessary skills to teach English Language Arts (ELA) effectively at the high school level (grades 9-12) across diverse learning environments. The 46-credit major combines theoretical foundations with practical applications, focusing on research-based teaching strategies for comprehensive language arts instruction. Students refine their teaching techniques through hands-on training at University High School (the university's affiliated laboratory school) and in various public school settings, including rural, suburban, and urban locations.
