Illinois State University is home to Illinois' sole Dance Teacher Education certification program. Our program stands out in equipping undergraduate students for teaching roles in both public schools and private institutions. We foster a rigorous yet supportive atmosphere that readies students for various career paths in Dance Education, guiding them toward obtaining teaching certification for grades 9-12. Participants in this program will cultivate knowledge, abilities, and proficiencies aligned with national and state dance benchmarks while gaining exposure to diverse teaching scenarios. The Dance Teacher Education curriculum is designed on the principle that technical, creative, theoretical, and physical training combine to foster holistic development as both a dancer and educator. Backed by a distinguished, nationally recognized faculty with diverse movement backgrounds and teaching approaches, the program offers comprehensive training. Students enhance their expertise through classes covering choreography, improvisation, dance history, multicultural viewpoints, dance kinesiology, teaching methodologies, and career-focused professional development courses.
