The FCS teacher education program is renowned for developing exceptional educators. Our curriculum aligns with Illinois' teacher certification standards. Students can earn their Illinois teaching credential through either a four-year or accelerated two-year degree path. Program completers are certified to instruct grades 5-12 across all FCS disciplines, with additional specialization options. School districts frequently turn to Illinois State when seeking top-tier FCS educators, as we graduate more FCS teachers than any other program in the state. Participants benefit from a tight-knit community featuring robust peer connections, dedicated faculty mentors, and an active student association. Our extensive alumni network offers ongoing support, while numerous scholarships and teaching assistant positions provide financial assistance - with most undergraduate TA roles filled by our FCS education majors.
