The English Teacher Education (ETE) program is an English Studies track offered by the Department of English within Illinois State University's College of Arts and Sciences. Prospective teachers in this program train to become skilled educators for high school (grades 9-12) English Language Arts (ELA) in multicultural learning environments. The 46-credit curriculum builds subject expertise and teaching methodologies by exploring how educational theories and research inform effective approaches to integrated language arts instruction. Students gain hands-on teaching practice through clinical placements at University High School (ISU's campus-based training school) and diverse public school settings, including rural, suburban, and urban locations.
