The ISU AAI certificate program was carefully designed following current best practices and through partnerships with global experts in animal assisted interventions. Every course blends academic theory with hands-on skills training, prioritizing practitioner proficiency, animal well-being/rights, and real-world effectiveness. While primarily concentrating on professional applications of Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) and Animal Assisted Education (AAE), we also address considerations for implementing Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) in healthcare and educational settings. Through this three-part course series, learners acquire comprehensive understanding of AAI's historical foundations, research landscape, professional norms, and supervised practical experience.

This curriculum underwent rigorous evaluation and received endorsements from multiple internationally recognized AAI authorities. The program director consistently updates materials to maintain alignment with evolving standards while actively seeking peer review and input on all curricular components. Regular guest lectures from specialists ensure students benefit from diverse expert viewpoints and connect with prominent figures across the field beyond their primary instructor.
