Students working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry must finish ENGL 1101 or ENGL 1101P and COMM 1101 in their first year, while ENGL 1102 should be completed by or during their second year. (General Education Objective 1 is met through ENGL 1101 or ENGL 1101P, along with ENGL 1102. Objective 2 is fulfilled by COMM 1101.) MATH 1160 or MATH 1170 should be taken early to satisfy Objective 3. Remaining General Education Requirements can be completed as the student's schedule permits. This degree requires completion of 8 out of 9 General Education Objectives (totaling at least 36 credits—refer to the General Education section in the Academic Information catalog). The department provides five degree options: four conventional programs and a distinctive combined B.S./M.S. track. The Bachelor of Arts program offers flexibility for students seeking interdisciplinary expertise, making it particularly suitable for those interested in chemistry, biology, or pharmaceutical chemistry intersections. The Bachelor of Science program focuses more extensively on chemistry, resulting in American Chemical Society (ACS) certification upon graduation.
