Occupational Therapy is a healthcare field that offers support to individuals across all age groups whose lives have been affected by physical injuries, illnesses, or challenges related to development, mental health, or aging. Professionals in this field help people acquire or recover the skills needed to engage in their everyday activities. These activities encompass all aspects of daily life, from personal care and social interactions to employment, recreation, and hobbies. For instance, someone with a disability might require assistance to relearn dressing techniques, navigate public transportation safely, or cook simple meals to regain independence and purpose.
An Occupational Therapy Assistant supports an Occupational Therapist as part of a healthcare team. Following a structured assessment and treatment plan with defined objectives, the OTA implements therapeutic strategies, makes environmental adjustments, or provides education about medical conditions. They work closely with the OT to monitor progress, adjust treatment plans, and maintain records. OTAs also collaborate with other healthcare providers, playing an essential role in patient care.
Students in our Occupational Therapy Assistant program gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical training to deliver effective interventions across diverse practice settings. These may involve working with children who have disabilities, adolescents managing depression, adults recovering from brain injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions, and seniors coping with Parkinson's, Dementia, or needing home/workplace modifications. OTAs play a crucial role in helping individuals rebuild, enhance, and maintain the abilities necessary for independent living.
