The Automotive Technology program is administered by Idaho State University's College of Technology. It collaborates with Idaho Career & Technical Education and holds approval from the State Board of Education. Program graduates will be equipped to: Deliver theoretical knowledge and assist students in cultivating diagnostic abilities and hands-on practice in modern vehicle repair, preparing them for a lasting career as automotive technicians. Graduates will possess these acquired competencies: 1. Utilize service manuals to find specifications for inspecting, repairing, and adjusting automotive systems. 2. Show proficiency with manufacturer's Service Manuals, Mitchell-OnDemand & All-Data, Identifix, and similar resources. 3. Skillfully operate various testing devices to diagnose and fix issues, identify failure causes through thorough analysis, and communicate results. 4. Correctly handle and operate standard technician hand tools, power equipment, and automotive shop machinery following NOVA's safety protocols. 5. Exhibit expertise with measuring instruments to precisely diagnose internal combustion engines. 6. Comprehend automotive fuel systems, ignition systems, emissions, instrumentation, and chassis control principles, and have practical knowledge of contemporary computerized powertrain management systems. 7. Diagnose problems in automotive air conditioning and climate control systems and determine required maintenance or repairs.

Qualification Requirements

Freshman applicants must submit official secondary school mark sheets and diploma. Mailed documents must be originals or copies certified by the school principal or controller of examinations and sealed in a school envelope. Documents not in English must be translated by a certified translator. Official transcripts are also accepted by email if sent directly from the school principal or registrar. Students who do not meet minimum English proficiency requirements may apply for conditional admission, during which time they will need to be enrolled in an intensive English program, such as ISU’s IEI program, in preparation for full-time academic study at ISU. Have graduated from a high school or secondary school with satisfactory grades, received a diploma or certificate of graduation, and be eligible for admission to a major university in the country from which they graduated. Have an estimated GPA of 2.25. TOEFL – iBT 61, Paper – 500, Computer – 173, IELTS - 5.5 overall score OR a minimum 5.0 in ALL subscores
