Biological physics research explores neural networks and biomedical physics applications. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Howard University aims to achieve national and global recognition for excellence in physics education and research while ensuring African American students and other underrepresented groups have opportunities to maximize their potential in physics. The department began awarding Master of Science degrees in the 1930s and introduced PhD programs in the 1960s. Its graduate program objectives include: 1. Becoming the nation's top producer of African American physics PhDs, and 2. Establishing itself as a leading small-scale physics program specializing in select research areas. Studies in biological physics focus on neural networks and biomedical physics applications.
