The Bachelor of Music in Music History program enhances comprehensive musical knowledge and refines research abilities. Students can only declare history as their major after successfully completing MUSC-010 and MUSC-011 with a minimum grade of B. Music history majors must fulfill the criteria for a performance minor (either vocal or instrumental) and demonstrate proficiency through student recitals. A B average must be maintained in the major field. Two significant research projects must focus on African American musical traditions. Completion of a senior thesis is mandatory. Graduating students must successfully defend their work in an oral examination conducted by a faculty panel.
