Linguistics involves the methodical, scientific examination of language. Forensic linguistics applies linguistic principles to language use with legal significance. This master's program in forensic linguistics addresses the increasing need for expertise in scientific language analysis. Students gain comprehensive knowledge of linguistic science and learn to apply theoretical concepts to real-world analytical challenges, particularly within legal contexts. The curriculum covers essential linguistic disciplines such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, sociolinguistics, dialectology, and discourse analysis, while emphasizing their practical use in legal investigations, court proceedings, and document analysis. Instruction focuses on linguistic principles, frequently utilizing forensic language examples.

Specialized courses examine how linguistic science applies to various criminal cases, such as extortion, bribery, homicide, espionage, and weapons proliferation, as well as civil matters like trademark disputes, contract interpretation, and libel cases. Students develop skills to evaluate interrogation techniques linguistically and conduct document authorship analyses. Essentially, while mastering linguistic science, they also acquire practical skills for applying this knowledge to diverse real-world legal situations.
