The Master of Education in Elementary Education (M.Ed.) cultivates skilled educators who engage in thoughtful practice and contribute to educational advancement. This program features a curriculum grounded in standards, practical experience, and research-based learning, utilizing modern educational technology to blend subject matter with teaching methods. Through digital portfolio evaluations, university instructors and mentor teachers support candidates in developing professional expertise, abilities, and attitudes. Hawaii Pacific University's M.Ed. in Elementary Education equips future teachers with competence, compassion, and professionalism via classroom interactions and hands-on training. Students benefit from intimate class sizes and personalized guidance from faculty and mentors.
This program qualifies graduates for K-6 teaching certification. Participants will undertake 450 hours of field experience during a single term. School assignments consider multiple aspects: instructional approach, candidate employment status, residential proximity to the school, and work schedule compatibility. We strive to ensure clinical practice offers substantial, applicable, and rigorous learning opportunities.
Participants take ten foundational seminar classes covering elementary education and curriculum development, plus two culminating clinical practice courses, totaling 36 academic credits.
Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree (or the equivalent to a U.S. college or university degree for international students) with a GPA of 2.7 or higher are encouraged to apply for admission.
English Language Score: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Score of at least 550 (pct.) or 80 (iBT); International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall band score of at least 6.0; Pearson Test of English (PTE): Score of at least 55; Duolingo English test: Score of at least 105; Cambridge Score: Score of at least 176; Step Eiken: Test level of Grade 1; iTEP (International Test of English Proficiency): Score of at least 3.9; ELS Language Center: Completion of level 112. Application Deadlines: July 1st for Fall entry.
