Exploring ocean life - from tiny plankton to the massive blue whales, Earth's largest creatures. Similar to general biology, marine biology encompasses numerous specialized areas, such as cellular molecular studies (molecular biology), organism functions and adaptations (physiology), and community dynamics with their surroundings (ecology). The unifying factor across these disciplines is the marine setting, spanning coastal wetlands, rocky shores, coral reefs, kelp forests, open oceans, and deep-sea environments. This field integrates knowledge from chemistry, physics, geology, and oceanography, covering specialties like marine microbiology, algae research (phycology), marine toxicology, fisheries management, deep-sea ecosystems, invertebrate studies, fish biology (ichthyology), marine mammal science, and conservation biology.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from HPU equips students with essential skills and knowledge for diverse career paths. Graduates are ready for roles as research technicians in labs or government agencies, aquarium specialists, or educators in marine institutions, along with opportunities in aquaculture, fisheries, environmental assessment, and policy. Those aspiring to leadership roles or independent research gain the foundational expertise to pursue advanced degrees. HPU also provides a Master of Science in Marine Science program for students seeking graduate-level education.
