The Bachelor of Arts in Cinematic Multimedia Arts program equips students with technical, creative, and storytelling abilities across various digital media fields, such as film production, screenwriting, animation, visual effects, video editing, sound engineering, web development, visual design, game creation, and media studies. Learners participate in diverse, hands-on experiences using various digital platforms within an interdisciplinary, team-based setting.
The BA in Cinematic Multimedia Arts offers specialized tracks in Production and Animation/Design, helping students master technical and narrative competencies across film and digital media domains like cinematography, screenwriting, animation, visual effects, post-production, sound design, web development, graphic arts, game development, and media criticism. Participants gain multicultural, practical knowledge through multiple digital platforms in a cross-disciplinary, cooperative atmosphere. The Production concentration readies students for careers in broadcast, digital media, and entertainment sectors, offering capstone options in narrative filmmaking, animation, or documentary work. These practical audiovisual and digital competencies are built upon communication theory, analytical thinking, and storytelling principles. The Animation/Design track prepares graduates for digital media and entertainment fields, focusing on motion graphics, animation techniques, and digital artistry through portfolio development and final projects. These hands-on multimedia skills are supported by software proficiency, writing ability, critical thinking, and creative conceptualization.
The program mandates an Internship Practicum arranged by the department, allowing students to gain experience with local organizations. Common internship hosts include media outlets like Clear Channel, Time-Warner Cable, KHON-TV, KHNL-TV, KITV-TV, Thinktech Hawaii, along with various production houses and marketing firms.
