The Master's in Data Science, a collaborative initiative between the Computer Science and Statistics departments under the Institute for Applied Computational Science (IACS), equips students with expertise in this fast-evolving discipline. Data Science bridges statistical approaches, computational techniques, and diverse real-world applications. The curriculum provides rigorous training in statistical modeling, machine learning, optimization strategies, handling large-scale datasets, and data collection methods. Emphasis is placed on key areas including replicable data analysis, teamwork in problem-solving, effective data visualization and presentation, along with addressing privacy concerns and ethical considerations in data handling. To obtain the Master of Science degree, candidates must successfully finish 12 courses, typically requiring a minimum of three semesters (18 months) of on-campus study. Many students opt for an additional semester to pursue elective coursework or undertake thesis research.
Students with bachelor’s degrees in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering are invited to apply for admission.
Applicants who are non-native English speakers and who received their undergraduate degree from an academic institution where English is not the primary language of instruction must prove their English proficiency by earning either a minimum score of 80 on the Internet based test (iBT) of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a minimum score of 6.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test. Some programs may require a higher score. Application Deadline: Dec 15.
