The Master in Public Policy (MPP) program equips you with a comprehensive skill set and broader outlook for impactful public service careers. In your initial year, core courses build expertise across essential domains: Economics, Ethics, Leadership, Negotiation, Political Science, Policy Development, and Data Analysis. The first-year experience culminates with Spring Exercise - an intensive two-week simulation applying your accumulated knowledge. Typically, students pursue policy-focused internships during the following summer. The second year concludes with the Policy Analysis Exercise, a practical thesis project. Our academic setting fosters intellectual curiosity, allowing you to delve into diverse policy fields and uncover new passions.
The International and Global Affairs (IGA) specialization prepares emerging leaders like you to address intricate global challenges. IGA students enhance their master's studies with rigorous coursework led by Harvard Kennedy School's renowned global affairs scholars. This concentration develops policymakers with international perspectives for careers in government agencies, NGOs, international organizations, or multinational corporations. Graduates often apply their IGA expertise to fields like global security, human rights advocacy, sustainable energy, environmental policy, or digital governance - all critical areas for international cooperation. HKS houses numerous research centers focusing on themes relevant to IGA studies and potential academic interests.
