The Harvard Chan School's Master of Public Health program equips you with comprehensive knowledge, specialized expertise, practical skills, and an influential global network to advance your public health career. Designed for medical practitioners, experienced public health professionals, or those new to the field, the program offers adaptable degree structures and diverse concentration options. These provide both foundational public health training and specialized pathways tailored to your aspirations. Alumni of the Harvard Chan MPH program have made extraordinary contributions worldwide - from leading disease eradication initiatives against smallpox and Guinea worm to directing hospital departments and healthcare organizations. Graduates have assumed leadership roles in health ministries, humanitarian groups, corporations, academic institutions, and government agencies. Their achievements include developing vital vaccines, practicing across medical specialties, authoring influential books, and even serving as national leaders. The 45-credit MPH (MPH-45) program accommodates candidates with existing graduate degrees, medical/dental students who've completed clinical training, or professionals possessing five-plus years of relevant public health experience.
The occupational and environmental health concentration examines workplace and ecological hazards, work-related physiological factors, gene-environment interaction risks, and practical solutions for diverse work and community health challenges. Students select between two focus areas: occupational health or environmental health. This program prepares physicians and professionals for careers in occupational/environmental medicine or leadership positions in related policy and management. The occupational health track meets the academic requirements for the two-year Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency (detailed in the resident handbook). It also helps physicians fulfill the American Board of Preventive Medicine's didactic prerequisites for occupational and environmental medicine certification.
