For six decades, the Harvard School of Dental Medicine's Division of Periodontology (HSDM) has focused on cultivating leaders in patient care, research, and academia. By combining outstanding clinical education with analytical reasoning and scientific methodology, our graduates have excelled in private practice, academic careers (both teaching and administrative roles), leadership in major dental organizations like the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology, and International Association for Dental Research, as well as groundbreaking clinical and scientific research. This program offers an interdisciplinary approach to developing clinical experts in periodontology. Participants must earn an advanced degree (MMSc or DMSc) alongside their periodontology certification. Clinical training is integrated with specialized study in areas such as biomedical research, clinical investigation, or healthcare systems. Residents gain expertise in diagnosing and treating all periodontal conditions, including complex cases requiring collaboration with other specialties. The 33-month curriculum combines MMSc studies with periodontology certification through continuous, integrated training.
