The LL.M. (Master of Laws) is a one-year graduate program that usually enrolls around 180 students representing approximately 70 nations. The program seeks to admit intellectually engaged candidates from diverse legal traditions, professional experiences, and career aspirations. Harvard's LL.M. cohort comprises practicing attorneys, government professionals, academics, judicial officers, diplomats, human rights advocates, doctoral candidates, business professionals, and more. This rich diversity among participants greatly enhances the learning environment for all law school students.
Students must have a bachelor degree. All applicants from non-English speaking countries who did not receive their full-time legal education entirely in the English language must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination within two years prior to submitting their applications. The Graduate Program requires a minimum score of 100 on the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 25 on each subsection).
