Students have the option to simultaneously work toward master's degrees in two different GSD programs. The shortest full-time duration for dual degrees is typically one academic year (two semesters) beyond the lengthier program's standard requirement. Suggested study plans for various degree pairings are available via the left sidebar links. For combinations without posted guidelines, reach out to the respective program directors for details. These recommended study sequences outline efficient pathways for common degree combinations—deviating from them might extend your completion timeline. Note that these plans serve as general guides only. Curriculum updates and individual student circumstances (like advanced standing in one or both programs) can affect requirements and course sequencing. Every student will collaborate with both program directors to create a personalized, official study plan. Applicants to multiple programs must submit separate applications and fees for each and gain independent admission to each program. Current students applying for a second GSD degree must follow identical application procedures and meet the same deadlines as new applicants.

Qualification Requirements

Individuals who have completed a four-year Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in any field are eligible for admission to the first term of the professional degree program. Preference for admission is given to applicants who have completed a balanced undergraduate education that includes study in the arts, sciences, and humanities. Three college-level, semester-long courses are specifically required as prerequisites for admission to the MLA I program: one semester of environmental science; one semester of history of the built environment (this could include history of architecture, history of gardens and designed landscapes, environmental history, urban history); and at least one semester of visual arts (drawing, painting, sculpture, graphics). Applicants must achieve a grade of B- or better in each of these courses. Courses in the humanities, philosophy, literature, and economics are also recommended but are not required. The preferred total TOEFL iBT score is 104 or above, with individual section scores of 26 or above. The minimum required TOEFL iBT total score is 92, with the following minimum section requirements: reading, 23; speaking, 23; listening, 23; writing, 23. If TOEFL iBT is not available, and the paper-based TOEFL is taken, applicants must achieve a minimum total score of 577 and a minimum of 57 on each section. A score of 600 is preferred, with individual section scores of 60.
