The MPR concentration (previously known as Evaluative Science & Statistics) equips students with the skills to perform thorough, policy-focused research. This program provides comprehensive methodological instruction incorporating quantitative approaches from statistics, econometrics, and epidemiology, while also offering exposure to qualitative techniques. MPR students gain expertise in both experimental and quasi-experimental study designs. While the concentration doesn't mandate specialization in a particular social science field, students may dedicate two distributional requirements to disciplinary studies (such as economics or sociology), with many opting for additional coursework in specialized topics or advanced statistics. This educational approach fosters a cross-disciplinary skillset that integrates diverse quantitative methodologies for innovative applications in health-related research. Graduates emerge prepared to engage productively with professionals across statistics, economics, epidemiology, and clinical research while directing their own projects. The program's versatile methodological foundation enables investigation of numerous subjects, including standard health services research themes like healthcare access, quality, cost, and inequities, as well as studies on clinical decision-making, behavioral patterns (among patients, providers, or institutions), social health determinants, and health-impacting social programs.
