Harvard's Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) Program provides doctoral education focused on modern genetics, biochemistry, and molecular, cellular, and mechanistic biology as foundational elements. The program encompasses eight interconnected research networks, representing both core science departments and interdisciplinary initiatives at Harvard Medical School. These communities function like specialized districts within a larger academic metropolis. Every neighborhood fosters tight-knit collaborations where faculty and students united by shared scientific passions drive innovation in their disciplines while engaging in career development programs designed for today's diverse PhD pathways. BBS uniquely merges extensive research opportunities across its wide-ranging academic landscape with the close-knit, specialized environments characteristic of smaller departmental programs.
