For six decades, Harvard School of Dental Medicine's Division of Periodontology has focused on training future leaders in dental care, research, and education. By combining rigorous clinical instruction with analytical thinking and scientific methodology, our graduates excel in diverse fields - from private practice to academic leadership roles, including positions at major organizations like the American Dental Association and International Association for Dental Research. Our program creates clinical scholars through an interdisciplinary approach, requiring all residents to earn an advanced degree (MMSc or DMSc) alongside their periodontology certification. The curriculum blends clinical training with specialized research in biomedical or healthcare delivery fields, ensuring residents master complex periodontal treatments and interdisciplinary case management. Depending on research requirements, the program spans 45-57 months, with the four-year DMSc/certificate track primarily preparing students for academic careers.
