Statistics finds applications across diverse fields, which is why this program emphasizes learning how statistical methods are utilized in various disciplines. By nature, statistics shouldn't be studied as a standalone subject. Students can complete the concentration requirements through any of four specialized tracks: The BCB track combines biology, statistics, and computer science, providing analytical models and techniques for biological data including gene and protein sequences. This approach responds to the dramatic increase in volume and complexity of biological data, necessitating innovative statistical approaches like those used for identifying gene/protein patterns, reconstructing evolutionary relationships, and analyzing gene expression data.
