Our programs are designed to familiarize students with linguistic analysis and involve them directly in the process. They also introduce learners to the remarkable variety of world languages. No extensive foreign language experience is necessary or expected. The department's foundational courses require no previous knowledge in this area. Students pursuing Linguistics with Mind, Brain, and Behavior (MBB) fulfill their remaining non-tutorial requirements through advanced linguistics courses or studies in mind, brain, and behavior. Typical MBB-related offerings might include philosophy courses (such as Philosophy of Language), psychology classes (like Cognitive Neuropsychology), and computer science subjects (including Natural Language Processing).
