The Italian Studies program explores significant eras and figures in Italy's literary heritage, spanning from Dante to contemporary times, while also examining its impact on modern pop culture, cinema, theater, philosophy, cutting-edge industrial design, and the growing discipline of cultural economics. The curriculum additionally covers the literature and traditions of immigrant groups in Italy and Italian-speaking diasporas globally. Students are urged to enhance their studies with faculty-guided independent research and to integrate cross-disciplinary approaches into their academic journey. Harvard hosts a Gamma Kappa Alpha National Italian Honor Society chapter, recognizing exceptional undergraduate achievements in Italian language, literature, and cultural studies.
