The Department of Government, encompassing political science, serves as a broad platform covering diverse political topics and analytical perspectives. Positioned at the intersection of history, law, economics, sociology, philosophy, and ethics, it draws from these fields while developing unique theories and methodologies. Similar to our faculty, Government concentrators are motivated by varied interests—some drawn to modern U.S. politics, others intrigued by analytical models for explaining or forecasting political trends. Many explore classical Greek political thought, ethical dilemmas in global citizenship, regional political cultures, or connections between ethnicity and conflict, as well as human rights and democratic development. As a highly adaptable concentration, Government enables students to shape their academic path by selecting courses that fulfill either primary or secondary field requirements. Working with Concentration Advisers, students craft a structured curriculum that balances foundational political science knowledge with specialized focus areas aligned with their passions.
