Chinese language courses are available at beginner and intermediate levels (Chinese 101, 102, 201, and 202) when enrollment numbers permit. Proficiency in Chinese serves as one of the complementary requirements for the major/minor program. Those with an interest in Chinese are advised to explore the International Studies major and minor options. The Modern Languages and Literature Department aims to equip students for global citizenship, instilling the values of responsibility, compassion, cultural acceptance, and social justice that characterize Jesuit education. Our program focuses on three primary objectives: enabling students to use languages effectively in practical situations, cultivating analytical and critical thinking skills through diverse cultural studies, and promoting intercultural understanding to build meaningful relationships across different cultures.
