The Theater Arts Department offers students the chance to explore theater as both an art form and a professional craft. Those pursuing the Associate in Arts in Theater Arts degree gain preparation for transfer programs and careers involving theatrical history, literature, performance, design/technology, and management. The curriculum covers theatrical history, literature, various design disciplines (scenic, costume, lighting, sound, makeup), acting, directing, and management through both coursework and hands-on production experience. Through production work, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The program fosters academic and artistic growth to prepare students for success in advanced studies or professional work, equipping them for bachelor's degree programs in Theater Arts.
After completing this program, graduates will be able to:
Comprehend theater's historical development and its connections to modern society and culture
Execute full theatrical productions, encompassing performance, script work, design, and technical elements
Provide constructive analysis of their own work and others' creative output
Develop specialized skills in a chosen theater discipline (performance, technical work, directing, or management) with problem-solving capabilities in that area
Recognize both individual and team-based processes essential for staging live theater performances.
