Georgia State's Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (B.I.S.) equips students to engage with and participate in contemporary discussions about ideal political and economic systems, along with the most effective policies for establishing and maintaining them. The program cultivates both the analytical abilities of social scientists examining societal functions and the evaluative perspective of moral philosophers assessing how society should operate.
At GSU, this program enables students to actively participate in current debates regarding optimal governance structures and economic frameworks, while also developing appropriate implementation strategies. Students gain dual competencies: the empirical approach of social scientists studying real-world systems and the normative approach of philosophers considering ideal social arrangements. Graduates emerge prepared for advanced studies and professions demanding strong analytical reasoning, critical thinking, and communication skills, with excellent prospects in legal, governmental, nonprofit, or business sectors, as well as doctoral programs in related fields.
By integrating the methodological strengths of philosophy, political science, and economics, this interdisciplinary program facilitates profound examination of ethical, societal, governance, and financial challenges. It's particularly valuable for aspiring legal professionals. PPE alumni frequently assume influential roles in public and private sectors, contributing thoughtfully to policy debates. The program sponsors the Civil Discourse Forum, a student organization fostering constructive conversations on contentious topics, frequently guided by PPE participants.
